SolidWorks 2012 website

SolidWorks has put up a website for the new version of the software. Just one catch – you have to fill out a form with 12 fields including a “time to purchase” field in order to see what’s on the page.

So what’s on the page that is so great that SW has to harass people to get in?

Some videos and a web-based what’s new list. You can get a quote or contact sales. You gotta run right out and getchu somma dat 2012.

Notice the new slogan.

Oh, by the way, SW 2012 pre-release 1 is available for download.

If anyone else sees any 2012 coverage, can you slip me a comment here? Aside from SW employees, I’ve seen three.

  1. Bruce,
It sounds in the interview like the cloud is a very touchy topic for SW to talk about at all.
Why i dont know. You have this hot technology you commit almost all your development resources to to be first in the industry with. It has to be really good in that case, right, and selling it is going to be real easy. Its a clear winner. Its 20% faster and 20% cheaper or such.
Why wouldn’t you get out there and talk about all its virtues at every opportunity. Staff are proud of it. Customers are clamouring for it. Its pre-sold for months ahead already…man its hot..Apple? who are they?
Yet its actually a bigger secret than whether Fort Knox still has gold. We neither confirm nor deny anything except to say we never said anything we meant or didn’t mean. To my ears there was a climb down hidden in that interview.
DS are getting to the point where they have some explaining to do.
Either they are killing SW as Jeff said or they aren’t. Either they are going to the cloud as Bernard said or they aren’t.
If SW is alive and well then they need to deliver real CAD content and not try to flog off all manner of trinkets and BS as a release and expect people to hand over good money for it.
DS can’t have it both ways. While people are confused or disappointed at the moment the situation could quite easily turn ugly when people aren’t just pissed off over a persistant lock icon but angry over the whole migration.
SW have been in this type of quandary before and chosen to sit on things until they stink rather than deal with them.
I wonder if this juncture in SW history isn’t the most important one to decide on with integrity and reason rather than default to the ego.
If DS know what’s good for them they had better get out and fess up to their customers about either their cloud balls up or to neglecting SW.
Making Whats New in 2012 info hard to access or barely publicising it anywhere isn’t a successful PR strategy for handling a plan(e) gone missing in low cloud IMHO 😉

  2. Get a quote for SW2012 pricing? Is the price different for every customer? With this costing stuff, I would think that they could generate a price list.
